Joshua Tree at Belle
Joshua Tree at Belle
2021
ACRYLIC ON CANVAS by Robin Hostick
30 x 48 in.
It may sound strange to talk about stone in terms of personality, but in Joshua Tree National Park, it’s a thing. The rock in JT is massive but also finely sculpted, giving it a special quality that reminds one of faces and fantastic creatures - sort of like cloud watching. Similarly, it can also be hard to capture. This work recedes into shadow while pulling forward into full sunlight, lending depth and solidity to the stone. The smaller pinnacles reminded me of human figures, which give the scene an ineffable sense of presence and mystery I feel in this landscape.
Joshua Tree at Belle is painted in acrylic on 1-1/2” gallery profile canvas with hand-painted, neutral-toned edges for a contemporary look with or without a frame. The work arrives ready to hang.
