Mt. McLoughlin in southern Oregon is a perfect volcanic cone and a great climb. I was 11 years old on my first trip, which nearly wiped me out. This is the view from the solitude of Fourmile lake, a quiet place tucked away in the Cascade crest. The painting aims to capture the contrast and stillness of midday in late spring before the snowfields melt.
